C'est en ces termes que l'humanité est entrée, avec l'aide de la technologie de Gutemberg, dans une ère qui verra l'information passer au premier plan de notre existence. « L'invention de l'imprimerie ouvrira la voie, quelques siècles plus tard, aux journaux imprimés, qui connaîtront une large diffusion aux XIXe et au XX siècles. » (Breton & Proulx, 2006). Cinq siècles plus tard, nos techniques se sont certes améliorées, mais l'essentiel reste le même: nos publications s'adressent désormais aux masses.
