(FURTHER) POINTS TO CONSIDER

  • Empirical evidence as problematic

    Caractère problématique de l'évidence empirique

  • Standards are not necessarily universal, questions might be somewhat, but even questions will differ in different communities, the “problems” are conceived/formed differently

  • Reasoning is political, who says things carries differing weights, some people (actants) are harder to question

  • Can you separate reasoning from rhetoric, form from content and function? why would you want to? what could this do? (enact)

  • What happens when you see the "presentation of facts” as a form of pervasive legitimizing ?

  • Responses as partial. Try to note what is unsaid - to see selectivity, how partiality manifests, what we do and do not pay attention to (others too)

  • Is there an us/them, or only “us” ? what do these ways of seeing create (permit and hinder)?

  • Is the goal to prove and/or or explore? both? try to be explicit about the goal, obstacles therein and ways of achieving that purpose

Emotions are often discounted. but e-motion - “with motion”, what moves one. so can emotions allow us to note (pay attention to) intensities?

Words are often problematic but what else can we do? what happens when you put it all on language?

Look at how we are produced as well, how we enact des choix forcés De Lacan (c'est-à-dire qu'on est libre de choisir, à condition de faire le bon choix.) http://1libertaire.free.fr/Zizek09.html

Is a person singular or multiple? (what constitutes coherency)

Forcing diversity and examining power relations (in schools) may be disconcerting? Is this ethical?

Are we not just imposing another dogmatic form called difference, is this creating another “sameness” in its efforts to uphold difference?

Does examining these things really help? does foregrounding issues as grey as opposed to black and white (producing a complexity) help? hinder?

How does thinking before we act help? hinder?

How does enabling a viewing of the micro practices of power.. how power is resisted and enhanced?

Does learning about legitimation produce better citizens? how? could it simply make them better manipulators?

Solutions? continual problematics is better? does complexity get overwhelming?
